CHALLENGING
SEASON
by Bruiser Flint
It’s been a challenging season for us. Just twelve months
ago we thought we were on our way to the NCAA tournament.
Now we are struggling to survive.
We enter the CAA Tournament with a 5-13 conference mark.
That’s is far below our expectations. Most of our problems
have been self-inflicted. One night it will be turnovers,
which is the cause of our demise. On another night it will
be poor free-throw shooting that costs us an opportunity.
On another evening it will be bad shot selection.
And on some nights it’s been all those things.
At one point we were 5-1 on the season and ranked in the
Mid-Major Top 25. There is no question that we have
struggled since our early-season success. This is
unfamiliar territory for the program. In recent years we
have been among the contenders for CAA regular season
title.
Now it’s a new season. The postseason gives you another
opportunity. We know we are capable of playing some good
basketball. It’s a matter of stepping onto the court and
executing for a full 40 minutes.
Despite our struggles we have been in every game this
season. We just haven’t been able to close games out, down
the stretch. I certainly believe we have the capability of
making a run in the tournament, but it will take a strong
40-minute effort
